We offer for purchase a unique collectible print, “Keepers of the Flame” created by David Geister. This limited edition of 200 signed and numbered prints was professionally created by Husom and Rose Photographics of Hager City, Wisconsin, using archival quality ink and paper. The print measures 17 inches high by 22 inches wide with the image measuring 13 by 18.75 inches and is suitable for framing.
Author Brian Leehan who detailed experiences of Minnesota’s First Regiment at Gettsyburg in his book “Pale Horse at Plum Run,” was inspired to write about the images in “Keepers of the Flame.”
“It starts as a spark: the spark of a dream – the dream that becomes an idea. And the idea grows into the spreading flame of a country and a new state: Minnesota. Freedom and opportunity to build a life, a home and a family, and to go as far as talent and ambition will carry you. Between the years 1861 and 1865 the dream, the idea, and the people on the Minnesota frontier were threatened. Minnesotans stepped forward to defend their country, their state, their towns and their homes – to keep the flame alive.
Artist David Geister imagines a chance meeting of the Minnesota soldier and civilian, coming together in the dark night of war around the bright campfire flame of their common cause.
Minnesota sent at least 21 military units into the Union armies, and we see each branch of that military service represented: infantry, cavalry and artillery. In addition we see the shotgun-armed civilian militiaman who stood to the challenge of defending the towns and homes of the Minnesota River Valley during the Dakota War of 1862.
Sparks fly upward, carrying the message that the valor of Minnesota is there to defend the Union and the state. The fire will not go out on their watch. They are the Keepers of the Flame.”
Available for purchase at $150.00 plus shipping. All proceeds go to The Minnesota Civil War Monument Project.
